Frequently asked questions.

Chemical Peel

Chemical Peels use acids of varying strengths to remove the surface layers of your skin, stimulating your natural ability to produce collagen and elastin. Peels visibly improve your skin’s vitality and elasticity, reducing fine lines and evening out skin tone. Chemical Peels are a really great way to keep your skin looking healthy and youthful.

  • Most clients experience slight discomfort usually described as a tingle. Some say it’s more like a moderate burning sensation. Your experience will depend on the strength of the peel selected. It’s important to talk to your esthetician about what your expectations and tolerances are. Often less is more where Chemical Peels are concerned, but some clients desire a more aggressive approach. Communication is key to a good result.

  • Avoid any other facial services two weeks prior to your appointment. Care for your skin normally and use a good hydrating lotion or serum and a daily SPF. We would be happy to make a recommendation when booking your appointment.

  • It depends on the strength of the peel. You may experience some redness that can last a few hours or a few days. It’s important to avoid sun exposure and use a high SPF for about two weeks (which you should be doing anyway). Some peels cause no peeling or flaking and some you will peel for a week or more. Wait a minimum of 14 days before having any other facial treatments, and let your esthetician know immediately if you have any concerns about how you are healing.

  • Many clients get a series of treatments to get the desired result. Others may do it once or twice a year. To protect the integrity of the skin, dramatic results are best achieved gradually and may require consistency and patience.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is an exfoliating skin treatment that uses a dermaplaning tool to remove dead skin cells and “peach fuzz” from your face. The procedure helps lessen fine wrinkles and acne scarring, revealing smoother, more youthful, radiant skin. Dermaplaning can be used on any skin type is painless, non-invasive, and doesn’t require any preparation or recovery time. It’s a great way to improve the effectiveness of other hydrating and exfoliating treatments.

  • Dermaplaning can be added to pretty much any other facial service and can greatly enhance the effectiveness of peels and masks. At Glow Skincare & Wax dermaplaning is automatically included in many of our facial treatments.

ProCell MicroChanneling

MicroChanneling is an evolved form of micro needling. It works by creating invisible channels in your skin that trigger a cascade of natural rejuvenation. As they heal, these channels produce new, high-quality collagen and elastin, as well as other beneficial elements such as peptides and epidermal growth factors. To augment this process, we introduce a human growth factor serum which triggers the body’s natural ability to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

  • To avoid over-sensitizing your skin prior to your treatment, stop using any retinoids, glycolic acids, or other exfoliants one week prior to treatment. You should also avoid sun exposure and always use sun protection for at least 7 days before treatment.

  • Some patients have a mild sunburn sensation that typically dissipates in a few hours. Skin redness, mild swelling or less commonly, bruising, can occur and should resolve quickly. If your esthetician plans to take a more aggressive approach during your treatment, they may recommend a numbing cream.

  • Your skin will probably be a bit tender and since the skin barrier has been disrupted, try to avoid touching your skin and make sure your hands are clean if you do. Wait 12 hours to clean or moisturize your skin and use gentle products. Wait 48 hours for full make-up. If skin is broken, apply antibiotic ointment and let us know asap. You may experience flaking, do not pick or pull at the flaking skin. Wait 7 days to use any physical or chemical exfoliators. While healing use a 30+ SPF daily, reapplying every two hours during sun exposure.

  • While you may see visible results after the first treatment, lasting and more significant results will be seen after 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, supplemented by a recommended skin care regimen.

Waxing

When you regularly remove hair from the follicle by the root, hair becomes finer and softer, and eventually begins to grow back more slowly and sparsely. Making skin smoother and softer to the touch. Plus, no shaving.

  • It can, especially the first time you wax. How much will depend on how much hair you have. It gets much easier with subsequent waxing and we do everything we can to make your experience as quick and painless as possible.

  • First thing is to make sure the hair is long enough for waxing. It should be 1/4 in long or longer. 2-3 weeks growth is the general rule of thumb. Exfoliate and moisturize the waxing area the week prior to your appointment (do not exfoliate day before service), and do not wear lotion the day of your appointment.

*** Discuss the use of all topical skin care and oral medications when making your appointment. Many skin care ingredients increase the potential for lifting the skin, and redness. All clients must be off Accutane for a minimum of 1 year prior to waxing services***

  • No problem, for your period please just make sure to have a new/clean tampon inserted during your service. And be aware your skin may be more sensitive during this time. If you are pregnant and have waxed before there are no concerns. If you are pregnant and have never waxed before it’s best to check with your doctor before making an appointment. In either case be sure to let your waxing service provider know about these and any other concerns and considerations prior to your appointment.

  • The short answer is it really depends. Initially you will probably need to wax every 4 weeks. The long answer is that hair grows in three different overlapping hair growth cycles. The best, longest lasting results occur after all three have been waxed and could last up to 4 weeks.

Lash & Brow tinting

Lash and brow tinting temporarily dyes the eyebrows or eyelashes to achieve the look of wearing mascara or brow pencil without having to apply makeup daily. This service is usually done as an adjunct to brow shaping and lash lifts. At Glow Skincare & Wax we use Belmacil Lash and Brow Tints which are specially formulated to work with Elleebana One Shot Lash Lift. Tinting typically lasts 4-6 weeks.

Elleebana Lash Lift

Elleebana Lash Lift is a lifting and curling lash service designed to give you longer-looking lashes without the need for lash extensions. A fast processing and formaldehyde free lash lift formulation is applied to the lashes and they are gently curled around a silicon rod which allows for perfect positioning of eyelashes. Elleebana is an industry favorite lauded for its superior lash lift formulation loaded with conditioning and lash-nourishing ingredients.

  • Lash lifts aren’t painful but it can feel a bit strange when the rods are first applied. Although it’s a relaxing service it’s not recommended for anyone who experiences claustrophobia since the eyes are closed and covered for up to 45 minutes. It is also not suitable for anyone with chronically watery, dry, or sensitive eyes.

  • Come to your appointment with clean dry make-up free lashes. Discontinue use of serums 3 days prior, and waterproof mascara 10-14 days prior to your lash lift service as both can leave a residue on lashes. Be sure to let you esthetician know about all eye and eye area skin conditions prior to booking an appointment. Clients should wait 6 months after Lasik before booking any lash lift appointments.

  • In the first 24 hours, avoid applying water or any product to your lashes. Avoid steam, saunas, hot water, and any oily or astringent face washes, lotions, or make-up removers. Sleeping on your back for the first night or two is recommended while your lashes are still setting. After 48 hours you can resume your usual routine excluding oil-based make-up removers and waterproof mascaras while restricting lash growth serums to twice a week. We strongly recommend our clients use Elleeplex lash conditioner and only use cool water on their lashes. Proper care and upkeep can extend the life of your lash lift to up to 8 weeks.
